So you want to build your own PC—congratulations! You’re going to have a blast and learn a lot about computers. Every build I have ever done has been fun and rewarding. And I learn something new every time.
You might be intimidated by the idea of building your own PC. But it really isn’t that hard! Most components fit together in specific places and are keyed so you can’t put them in backwards or upside down. It’s really pretty simple.
So why doesn’t everyone do it? Honestly, I think the hard part is selecting your components. If you’re selecting components for the first time, it can be a little overwhelming. Will my motherboard fit in the case? Is my power supply big enough? Is my graphics card too long? Did I pick the right memory? For the first time PC builder, the uncertainty can keep you from making the leap and instead headed to the store to buy a pre-built PC. But don’t do it! Stick with me.
In order to make the process easier for you, I’ve created several PC blueprints. These are based on what you want to do with the PC and your budget. Just pick your blueprint, and you’ll get a list of components that will work together and links to buy them. I update the blueprints about once a month, so you can be assured that you’re getting the latest technology.
If you feel you want to pick some of your own components, I’ve written various articles to help you get started – how much to spend on each component based on your overall budget, my design criteria, and some product reviews.
I hope you find these guides helpful. Feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions. I’d love to hear from you! – Steve
